Muckleshoot Treaty Trek
May 18, 1966
MOHAI - Muckleshoot Treaty Trek in support of tribal fishing rights, 1966
From Muckleshoot Tribe Facebook:
"On this day in 1966, Muckleshoot Tribal Members took a bold stand for justice, marching in the Muckleshoot Treaty Trek to demand recognition of our treaty-protected fishing rights. Their courage helped ignite the movement that led to the landmark Boldt Decision—and forever strengthened the fight for tribal sovereignty. Today, we honor their legacy and continue to protect the rights they stood for."
The march was a 13-mile trek to call attention to their dispute with the state over fishing rights.
