On February 14, 1992, the annual Women's Memorial March honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, plus, persons (MMIWG2S+), is first held in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, in Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories. The annual march leads to other cities and towns starting their own, as well as the 2016-2019 National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the 2019 Red Women Rising report, a Downtown Eastside community initiative.
