Western Shoshone led Mothers Day march and direct action at Nevada Test Site

May 8, 2004

Western Shoshone led Mothers Day march and direct action at Nevada Test Site Marchers, led by Western Shoshone, emerge from Highway 95 underpass headed for the Mecury line.
On this day in 2004, Shundahai Network organized a direct action against the Nevada Test Site. Their statement on the action is below:

The Shundahai Network is dedicated to shutting down the Nevada Test Site to all nuclear activities short of containment and clean-up. The Shundahai Network also acts in support of Western Shoshone territorial claims under the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley. As such, we recognize and support the authority and title of the Western Shoshone Nation over the land this devastating weapons facility has been imposed upon.

Shundahai Network conducts our activities within three main campaigns: Environmental Justice Now, Action for Nuclear Abolition, and Nuclear Free Great Basin. The Mothers' Day events at the Nevada Test Site are conducted within our Action For Nuclear Abolition program area.
