WCH:
On 4 February 2021, Inuit land defenders blockaded the Mary River mine on North Baffin Island, Canada. A group calling themselves the Nuluujaat Land Guardians initiate the action in protest against plans to expand the mine, which protesters believed would affect local wildlife, like caribou and narwhals, on which First Nations communities depend. Solidarity protests were held in other places across Nunavut, like Iqaluit, Igloolik, Naujaat and Taloyoak. The blockade continued for one week, until it was called off on February 11 so that protesters could hold official meetings with mine bosses, and official Inuit community leaders.
