Birthday of Howard Adams
Sept. 8, 1921
From USask: Born into poverty, Howard Adams [Métis] became one of the most highly educated, outspoken, and controversial Indigenous leaders of his time. As an educator, political leader, and writer he raised the political consciousness of Indigenous people concerning their position in capitalist society. The single-minded purpose of his work was the struggle against the colonization of Indigenous people in Canada and throughout the world.
[He was the great-grandson of Maxime Lepine, active in both the Red River and Northwest resistances.]
