Birthday of Pah-pleup-tid. Alvin (Al) Bridges Photo is from the book, Messages from Frank's Landing by Charles Wilkinson. Janet McCloud is in the bow, Don Matheson behind and Al Bridges is navigating. 1966
Longtime fighter for treaty fishing rights in the Pacific Northwest, Al served as director and was a founding member of the Survival of American Indians Association among many other contributions to the struggle. Husband to Maiselle Mccloud Bridges (Billy Frank Jr's sister) and father to Valerie, Suzette, and Alison Bridges, Al lived at Franks Landing for many years and was intimately involved in the fish wars. Along with others, he was arrested more than 50 times for asserting his treaty right to harvest fish. He and Maiselle traveled to Alcatraz during the occupation to call for support for the fishing rights struggle which caused many members of Indians of All Tribes to travel to the Northwest to support.
