Tina Manning was a Paiute-Shoshone water rights activist and wife of John Trudell. She worked and lived at Duck Valley Reservation in Nevada, where her father had served as tribal chairman. Manning died while pregnant at the age of 29 in an arson that also took the lives of her three children Ricarda Star, Sunshine Karma, and Eli Changing Sun, and her mother Leah Manning. Her husband John Trudell was out of town as National Chairman for the American Indian Movement and had made a speech and burned an American flag on the steps of the FBI building less than 24 hours earlier.
