One of the major battles in the Seminole Wars and a victory for the Muscogee and Seminole forces. Following the signing of the Indian Removal Act and coercive treaty proceedings with the Seminole, Creek, and Muscogee peoples in Florida, the Seminole wars began to forcibly remove Native peoples from Florida. This particular battle was won against Colonel Zachary Taylor with ~400 Native combatants beating ~1100 Army soldiers. Led by Muscogee warrior Abiaka, the Seminole forces used knowledge of terrain and guerrila warfare tactics to decisively win the battle, with 26 US soldiers killed and 112 wounded vs Seminole casualties of 11 and 14 wounded. Abiaka himself is credited with successfully resisting US policy of Indian Removal his leadership resulting in the continued presence of the Seminole people in Florida.
