After being accused of killing miners, which they denied, the US Military declared war on the Tukudeka band of Sheepeater Shoshone. On this day in 1879 a Tukudeka Shoshone raiding party attacks US soldiers led by Henry Catley. Two US soldiers were wounded and 23 pack mules were lost, with the American troops losing all their provisions. When the Tukudeka Shoshone were finally captured they were around 50 total people with only 15 warriors. Today Tukudeka Shoshone people live on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming and the Fort Hall Reservation in Idaho.

Also called The Lion of the Desert, ʿUmar al-Mukhtār Muḥammad bin Farḥāt al-Manifī was a Libyan revolutionary and Imam who led the native resistance in Cyrenaica (Eastern Libya) under the Senussids, against the Italian colonization of Libya. A teacher-turned-general, Omar was a prominent figure of the Senussi movement and is considered the national hero of Libya and a symbol of resistance in the Arab and Islamic worlds. Beginning in 1911, he organised and led the Libyan resistance movement against the Italian colonial empire during the First and Second Italo-Senussi Wars.

Attempts were made by Baranov in 1792 to established Russian presence in the area of Hinchinbrook Island, Yakutat Tlingit and Eyak allies chased off Baranov and his party. Russians returned in 1796 and established fort at Yakutat, interfering with traditional fishing sites. Following the Tlingit uprising in Sitka in 1802, on August 20, 1805, warriors of the Eyak clan led by Tanukh and Lushwak, and their allies from the Tlingit clan, burned Yakutat and killed the Russians who remained there. The attack was carefully planned and organized by Tanukh, who entered the fortress and killed the commander of the fortress, after which, according to Native legends, at his signal, "every warrior killed his Russian." Of the entire population of the Russian colony in Yakutat in 1805, according to official data, 14 Russians died "and with them many more islanders," that is, Kodiak and Chugach. The fall of Yakutat was another heavy blow to the Russian colonies. An important economic and strategic base on the coast of America was lost, and the site was never reoccupied.
