After disrespecting the tribes wishes, the five evangelical Christians were killed with spears. Today there remain uncontacted peoples in eastern Ecuador who Survival International and other groups attempt to support in their effort to remain sovereign and separate from dominant society. Despite these violent attempt at colonization and forced contact, some Waurani groups, as well as Taromenane peoples, remain intact in Ecuador. The son of one of the men who killed these colonizers, Ehenguime Enqueri Niwa, speaks out now against the forced contact of other uncontacted Native peoples: "We are against making contact with uncontacted tribes. They live peacefully, with their own way of life and their own food. It’s identical to what is happening in Peru. For centuries the Waorani have defended their territories, but now the biggest threats are oil exploration, loggers and miners." Ecuador and multinational corporations are guilty of allowing illegal forest harvesting as well as Shell Oil into their territories.

WCH: On 8 January 1932, Korean independence activist Lee Bong-chang threw hand grenades at the car of the Japanese emperor as he returned from a military review in Tokyo. Lee was born in Seoul in 1900 and first worked at a bakery before moving to Japanese-occupied north-eastern China (known as Manchuria) and working as an apprentice train driver. There, he was discriminated against by Japanese colleagues, who referred to him by the derogatory term for Korean people: "Josenjing". Lee then began to organise against Japanese colonialism and moved to Japan, working as a labourer, in a shop and as a factory worker, and learning Japanese. He decided to try to assassinate Emperor Hirohito and managed to get hold of two hand grenades. Lee told a friend: "I’m 31 years old. Even if I live 31 more years, I don’t think I’ll be given more pleasure than now. I’ll now fulfil my sacred mission to surprise the world for the sake of my country’s independence and freedom." Emperor Hirohito was unharmed by the grenades, and Lee was promptly arrested and later sentenced to death. He was executed on October 10, 1932, but the audacity of his act spurred further organising against Japanese occupation.

The organisation was initially founded as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) on 8 January 1912 in Bloemfontein, with the aim of fighting for the rights of black South Africans. BlackPast describes the founding of the party as "Africans, Coloreds, and Indians convened a meeting to discuss their grievances against the colonial government." While originally starting as a reformist party, opposing the implementation of apartheid and territorial segregation in 1913, by the 1940's they had become more militant. In 1940, Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu were recruited and they formed a Youth League which enacted more radical approaches. In the Territory of Louisiana, between January 8th and 10th, 1811, hundreds of slaves revolted and killed plantation owners as they marched to New Orleans. Hundreds of soldiers were called up to put down the rebellion. Dozens of rebels were killed during the uprising and reprisals, and 18 were tried and executed afterwards.
