From marxists.org: At La Sagesse in St. David's, an English estate owner, Lord Brownlow, who had purchased the land through [Prime Minister Eric Gairy's] help, cut off access to the local beach using Gairy's police to enforce the closure. Eight hundred people came to demonstrate against this arrogance, a 'People's Trial' was held and Lord Brownlow was condemned as unworthy to own land in Grenada. On January 26th, 1973, a large group of determined protesters, unthwarted by Gairy's armed police, reopened the beach to the Grenadian public. Two months later, in March 1973, M.A.P. and J.E.W.E.L. combined to form the New Jewel Movement. Almost at once they were involved in another mass campaign. The next month a youth, Jeremiah Richardson, was coldly gunned down on the pavement in Grenville by one of Gairy's police. The N.J.M. quickly mobilised five thousand people and marched on Grenville Police Station. The police fled in terror. The demonstrators then moved on Pearls International Airport which is to the north of Grenville, and brought international attention to the plight of Grenadians by closing it down for three days.

From WCH: On 26 January 1938, Aboriginal Australians rallied in Sydney on the 150th anniversary of the landing of the British First Fleet at Sydney Cove, in protest at ongoing discrimination against Aboriginal people. For the Australian colonial state, 26 January is marked as Australia Day, whereas since 1938 many Indigenous peoples mark it as Invasion Day, Survival Day, or Day of Mourning, to mourn the British invasion and protest against its celebration as a national holiday. On January 26, 1938, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people assembled at the Australian Hall and endorsed the following resolution: “We, representing the Aborigines of Australia, assembled in conference at the Australian Hall, Sydney, on the 26th day of January 1938, this being the 150th Anniversary of the Whiteman’s seizure of our country, hereby make protest against the callous treatment of our people by the whitemen during the past 150 years, AND WE APPEAL to the Australian nation of today to make new laws for the education and care of Aborigines, and we ask for a new policy which will raise our people to full citizen status and equality within the community.” Aboriginal resistance to colonialism continues, and thousands of people take to the streets across Australia on January 26, as a counter to Australia Day, calling for the date of the latter to be changed, or the holiday to be abolished entirely.

The Battle of Seattle was part of the Puget Sound War, an armed conflict over land rights, started because of the poor terms of the Medicine Creek Treaty. Five days before the attack on Seattle, Governor Stevens had declared a "war of extermination" upon the Indians. On January 26th, a coalition of tribes attacked the small town of Seattle. Possibly involved on the Native side were Klickitat, Spokane, Palouse, Walla Walla, Yakama, Kamialk, Nisqually, and Puyallup people. Most of the settlers hid in a blockhouse or on ships anchored in Elliot Bay including U.S. Navy Sloop of War Decatur. The Puget Sound War was a military defeat for the Native combatants, however it was a strategic win, as both the Nisqually and Puyallup reservations were made much larger.
